Claiborne County Schools announces two principals as part of its reimaging of grades PreK-6
The restructuring of the Claiborne County School District to revise the mission, vision, and goals for the district will witness changes in leadership, curriculum, instruction and operations for the opening of the new school year. A.W. Watson Elementary School will have an additional leader when the 2018-2019 school year begins August 9th. Glendora Alexander-Muhammad will take the helm as a second principal at A.W. Watson. As a result of moving sixth graders to the elementary school for the new academic year, the
enrollment at the elementary will expand the demand for an additional administrator.
Mrs. Muhammad states, “It is with great pleasure that I have been appointed to serve as Principal of Arthur W. Watson Jr. Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year along with Mr. Antwan Reeves.” The coordination of instruction and other services will be a collaborative effort of both principals for a cohesive and comprehensive educational process.
Mrs. Muhammad is entering her 31 st year in education, serving as Administrative Assistant, Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. She further states, “I am more excited about student success than when I first started in education. I am particularly passionate about students understanding their individual data and what he/she needs to do to move from one proficiency level to the next. I want all our children to show growth in school, district and state level assessments.
As Principal of A. W. Watson, she plans to work in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure every student at Watson Elementary is actively engaged in a rigorous learning experience while developing social-emotional skills that will foster resilience, perseverance, empathy and the ability to collaborate and communicate in a diverse learning and work community.
We want parents to know “In order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.”
The principals will embark on this new school year journey to ensure our children achieve their highest potential. The leadership has planned a productive learning environment that will engage the total community. Let us begin this school year the same way we begin every day with our students, grounded in our motto, “Dare to be the Best, better than the best, Best of the Champions, We are Champions Because we are Somebody!” As we continue to Build Educational Success Together, we extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. We want your involvement and support in your child’s education! This year promises to be a year filled with enriching opportunities for all of our students as we strive to find the best practices to continue our tradition of excellence in education!
We have highly qualified professional faculty and staff committed to providing our students many opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to achieve this goal of excellence. As we begin the new journey, “Here’s to an AWESOME new school year as we work cooperatively to make our school a great place to work and learn each day!”
One of the greatest characteristics of the Watson learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared among staff, students, and parents. Watson Elementary is a place where staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted to our care grow to be productive, confident, compassionate members of a global society.
On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff at A. W. Watson, we are happy to welcome students and parents to the 2018 school year!
