Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Verna Humphrey-Grimes
In 1993, I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts (Psychology/English) from the University of Mississippi, and in 1998, I obtained a Master of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Alcorn State University (Educational Administration). In addition, I also hold AA-Career Level Administrator License from the State of Mississippi. I have completed extensive training in the areas of curriculum development, teacher/staff evaluation, data analysis, coaching in education, best practices in education, drop-out prevention, school law, and school safety, just to name a few.
I hold 17 years of experience in this field, ten of which have been committed to the promotion of our students here within the Claiborne County Public School District. My established rapport with our students, parents, teachers, and community will definitely be a key asset in the positive, overall development of our students. I feel that I am trusted among the stakeholders to do what is right and what is best for our children to succeed.
Currently, I am assisting with changing the education patterns of our students at Port Gibson High School in the capacity of Assistant Principal. During my tenure, I have performed several duties that included: reviewing lesson plans, analyzing assessment data, progress monitoring of students and teachers, conducting important conferences with parents and staff members, monitoring academic performance of students, maintaining and updating files and important records, supervising students’ and teachers’ attendance and evaluating performance of teachers. My ability to lead in every aspect of school operations is clear and evident from my prior assignments in the district. My effective leadership style is one that is characterized by teamwork, fairness, and equity for all. My dedication to the job is only superseded by my love for the children in our school district, and my dedication to my work. As a result, I know that I can continue to prove my worthiness and viability within the Claiborne County Public School District.
I am a positive leader, one who can be trusted to be an advocate for our children and their rights to receive a high, quality education. My administrative ability is proven and my job-related skills have been firmly demonstrated. I will continue to be a leader who loves to learn and grow. I will continue to be a person who is accessible and approachable for concerns of my students, parents, and staff. I will continue to be an active, solid, dedicated member and a ringing voice for improvement of our school and district.
