WELCOME to the Claiborne County School District’s Intellectually Gifted Education Program.
This program offers instruction and exploration in various content areas based on student interests and Mississippi Department of Education Guidelines.  Promotion of appropriate, quality education for students identified as intellectually gifted will be the primary goal providing multiple and varied opportunities for students to investigate and integrate process skills into their lives. Gifted Education students are encouraged and supported in a risk-free learning environment to Realize and maximize their unique potentials.




The mission of the Claiborne County School District gifted program is to ensure that intellectually gifted children, as defined by the Mississippi Department of Education, are offered appropriate educational experiences that are qualitatively different from those available in the regular classroom in order to provide opportunities for them to realize their abilities and potential.

The MDE defines intellectually gifted students as: 
“those children and youth who are found to have an exceptionally high degree of intelligence as documented through the identification process.”

The Mississippi Gifted Education Act of 1989,  as amended in 1993, mandates that each public school district within the state provide gifted education programs for intellectually gifted students in grades 2-6.  Claiborne County School District currently serves the Intellectually Gifted population in Grades 2-6 in a pull-out program of enrichment.  DESTINY provides services to identified intellectually gifted students by a properly endorsed teacher of the gifted. Students spend 5 hours per week in DESTINY classes and the rest of their time in general education classrooms.

*to foster a learning environment that values and enhances the unique characteristics of the intellectually gifted.

*to design a varied and flexible curriculum that is responsive to the needs, interests, and abilities of the intellectually gifted learner.


Every child is gifted, they just unwrap their packages at their different times.
